Rory, CEO of Trumpet, catches up with Mark Goldberger, Head of Enterprise at Ramp, to discuss the true meaning of grit over product.
"If you have that grit, you have that hustle, you have that growth mindset, you're coachable, you, you really want to succeed with those intangibles. You could have the fourth best product out there and still win. I know because a long time ago, when I first came out to Silicon Valley, I couldn't get hired for a job.
I couldn't even get an interview coming from a different industry. And I ended up getting a job with a video conferencing company. And I was competing against zoom back in 2016, 2017. They were pretty well established. We were not, I was still hitting and exceeding my quota because I wanted it more. And I stuck to those fundamentals."
The power of intangibles in sales success
We've seen firsthand that success in sales isn't always about having the best product. It's about the grit, hustle, and determination of the individuals behind it. Mark Goldberger's experience resonates deeply with what we've observed in the market.
Overcoming odds with determination
Mark's story of breaking into Silicon Valley despite the odds is a testament to the power of perseverance. At trumpet, we believe that this same spirit of determination can drive success even when facing established competitors.
The growth mindset advantage
A growth mindset, coupled with coachability, can be your secret weapon in sales. It's not just about working hard; it's about constantly learning, adapting, and improving. This approach can help you outperform competitors, even if they have more established products.
Sticking to fundamentals
Mark's success against a giant like Zoom underscores a crucial point: sticking to sales fundamentals can yield remarkable results. At Trumpet, we emphasise these core principles in our approach to sales enablement.
